Focus Group Feedback
I created a group on facebook and added people who fall under my target audience, asking them what they would want. From this I found that my audience would want:
- Interviews and profiles with new and upcoming indie artists and bands
- Album releases
- New releases
- Gigs and performances
- Independent artists as well as mainstream

My target audience will be aspirer's as they want to climb the social ladder but, more importantly, will be radicals as they believe that they are original and different.
My target audience will have post-modernists social values and will be decision pending, still trying to figure out what to do, who to be and how to live.

Evaluation
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My media product, a magazine front cover, uses several different forms of real media products which I had researched from published magazines to help me to understand and use them in my own media product. I used items such as a bleed, as the picture on my front cover was printed to the edge of the page, a callout promoting offers that can be found within the magazine, a running banner along the bottom of the page promoting a competition in the magazine and a running head, giving the reader an idea of what to find inside the magazine, all of which I found on magazines in my research.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my magazine will be achievers, aspirers, post-modernists and will be between B and C2 on the Jicnars scale. Our audience will also be both male and female, aged between 16 and 19.
How did you attract/address your audience?
For my front cover, I used a picture bleed of a male student in a medium close-up, smiling and looking into the camera with both thumbs up in the sunshine. The sun connotes happiness and warmth and the 'thumbs up' and smile connote success and confidence by looking directly into the camera. The colour scheme used in my magazine is red, blue and white, which connotes patrionism and unisex material.
This attracts my audience of students who are achievers and aspirers as anchored with 'live work play study' connotes fun and freedom, whilst still being able to study and succeed.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
To be able to complete this project, I had to learn to use new technologies such as taking pictures with a digital camera and using programs such as photoshop and in design. Using the digital camera, I learnt how to change the mode, turn the flash on and off and control the shutter. Being able to use the digital camera helped my product as it gave a clear, high-quality photograph which was effective on the front cover of my magazine, it also helped being able to view the pictures I had just taken on the camera screen, to see if the shot was right. If we could not of used a digital camera, the process of making my magazine would of been much harder as it would of been difficult to transfer the photos from the camera onto the computer.
I also used the program photoshop to edit my frontcover, changing layers, text fonts, colours and sizes and creating the callout. This was useful for moving the mast head behind the picture boost etc.
To create the layout of my contents page, I used the program in design to create a grid of three collumns, helping to keep it even and keep the images and text alligned.

Preliminary Project Planning
From our research, we have found most magazines aimed at students contain information about financial help and money saving techniques, this will influence our magazine as we know most students are on a budget.
Also, from our research, we know that a lot of students are fashion concious and therefore our magazine will contain affordable fashion on the latest trends.
Potential cover lines-
Competition
Affordable high-street fashion
Money savers for students
Latest movie releases
University weekly review
Fonts-
Sans serif
Serif
Italics
Bold
Designs for masthead-
Hot pink
Me and my partner had discussions on the picture boost and from that we have decided it is going to be modelled by Tom Baker, a happy, positive student who will promote the college positively. We also felt that our front cover should be inspirational to inspire students to be the best they can be, this will reflect our story lines and layout.
We hope to have our project completed by the 7th of October 2011.
We will be photographing Tom studying in the college grounds outside in the sun.

Preliminary Project Research and Planning
We found Heat magazine to be very effective for the student audience as it had Martin Lewis' weekly column on money saving for students, also it had competitions which gave readers a chance to win money and shopping trips which would both be useful and attractive for students. Furthermore, it is also up to date with new releases and movie reviews, students would like this as they like to keep up to date with the latest entertainment.
From our research into Cosomopolitan we found it would be appealing to students as it had affordable fashion, discount vouchers and beauty discounts as many students have a tight budget to spend. Also, it had links to social networking sites making it easily accessible.
This magazine would be useful to college students as it also had links to facebook and twitter which helps the students keep up to date , furthermore it also has many up coming student events and advice on jobs and how to create a prefect cv this would be handy as it would help them get a job.
From our research we have found most of the magazines are aimed at achievers who want to achieve different goals, aged between 16-19, they are also post-modernists who are still deciding what they want to do with their lives.
